The short version

Color Name Generator is a free tool with no accounts and no sign-up. We do not ask for your name or email. The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and Google AdSense to show ads. Both use cookies. Colors you save with the heart button stay in your own browser and are never sent to us.

What we collect and why

Visit statistics (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages people visit, what device and browser they use, roughly where they are (country or city), and how they found the site. This helps us decide what to build next. Google Analytics uses cookies to tell one visit from another. It does not store full IP addresses. You can stop it with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

We show ads through Google AdSense to pay for the site. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your earlier visits to this website and other websites. Google's advertising cookies let Google and its partners show you ads that match your interests.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of other third-party vendors' cookies at www.aboutads.info or, in Europe, www.youronlinechoices.eu. If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will see a consent message before any personalised ads load. You can change your choice at any time from that message.

Saved colors (your browser only)

When you tap the heart on a color, the site stores that color in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device and we cannot see it. Remove a saved color, or clear this site's data in your browser settings, and it is gone.

Fonts

The site loads its fonts from Google Fonts. Your browser asks Google's servers for the font files, so Google sees your IP address and browser type for that request. Google says it does not use Google Fonts requests for tracking.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Netlify. Like every web host, Netlify keeps short-lived server logs that can include your IP address, the page you asked for and the time. These logs are used for security and to keep the site running.

Contact form

The contact form is a Google Form. Anything you type there is stored by Google and shared with us. Only send what you are happy for us to read. You do not have to give a name or email.

Cookies

A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser. This site does not set any cookies of its own. The services below do:

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works fine without them. Only the ads and the visitor count are affected.

What we do not do

We do not sell your data. We do not run a mailing list. We do not store colors you look up. The site has no login, so we hold no account information about you.

Children

The site is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your rights

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, and the GDPR if you are in Europe, you can ask what personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct or delete it. Because the site keeps no accounts and no database of visitors, there is usually nothing to hand over. Data held by Google is covered by Google's privacy policy. Ask us anything about this through the contact form.

If we change how the site handles data, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
